HC Volleyball Upsets #2 Mercy
After what was conceived as a near impossible draw, the HC Girls Volleyball team is one win away from the semifinals and a favorable draw to a state title game. Henry Clay pulled a shocking 2-0 upset over the #2 ranked Our Lady of Mercy Academy on Friday. This was sweet revenge after Mercy swept HC 3-0 on home soil during the regular season. HC Football wins again on the road
A stunning end of game move saw HC get its second win of the season on Thursday at Madison Central. After scoring to make the game nearly level in the dying seconds of the game, Madison Central chose to go for the win on the two point conversion rather then kick the PAT for overtime. Thanks to some stellar coverage, however, the HC secondary was able to tip the ball out of bounds. This secured a 28-27 Devil road victory. The Devils move to 2-5, with playoffs still a possibility.
HC Volleyball drops hard fought match in front of packed student section
It was a volleyball match that had it all. A #2 ranked private school who hadn't lost a game to a public school ever versus the highest ranked public school with one of the craziest student section turnouts of the year. This included 2 separate body painting jobs, a school wide T-shirt campaign, and the attention of almost a third of the student body. After all the hype put into the match, and rightfully so, the Devils simply couldn't get the needed breaks to stay in the match.
Our Lady of Mercy High School silenced the crowd early by winning two challenging sets. After that, HC sturggled to keep pace, and Mercy ran away with the third set, sweeping the Devils 3-0.
This goes down as the Devils' 7th loss of the season. Their 28-7 record is the best in the region with two games to play.
HC is home against North Oldham on October 4, and on the road at St. Henry on October 6. After that, the battle to make another state tournament begins.
